Great size, great display, definitely upgrade the memory December 31, 2009 Christopher Griffiths (Liverpool, UK) 58 out of 58 found this review helpful
So far this has been a great little product for me, it does everything I need right now even a few things I didn't expect it to be capable of. like playing some high res videos and playing video's over my network.
Ok, so I upgraded the RAM within 24 hours of buying the product to a 2GB stick I thought this would be wise so as to avoid any future issues. I also put a 1GB SD card in the memory slot and am using this for ready boost, this is probably unnecessary to be honest.
The screen is bright and the little blighter seems to last forever on a full charge. It handles all my external USB hard drives although it did take quite a while to transfer some photo's form a memory card.
I have a full version of office installed and this runs no problem. Windows 7 Starter is a bit limited, albeit this is in appearance changes and also I find searching and filtering my large music library quick but rather difficult to get the correct filter but this is software, not a problem with the netbook
I purchased a zeroshock 8.1" case which fits it like a glove. This is exactly what I wanted as opposed to some of the offerings out there which are like a binbag around such a small computer.
The build quality is solid with a good hinge mechanism. The power pack is small and doesn't get too hot. If you are processing a lot of files the netbook fan can be quite noisy but I don't see this as a problem when I am clearly pushing it right to the limit! The touchpad is responsive and the keyboard a good size. Still haven't matered the multitouch or even seen the point of it yet
In short, I did a lot of looking around and a lot of research. this wasn't my first choice. I would've preferred Samsungs latest offering but now I have this one I am really truly happy that I went for it, after all the eee pc has been around the block a few times now and the obviously know what they are doing!!
Perfect January 3, 2010 E. K. Grimes (UK) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I love my new netbook SO much. I did a lot of research and this really is exactly what I was looking for. I did a typing test and my typing speed on the 1005HA is the same as on my laptop - the keyboard is very well designed and ergonomic.
As soon as I got it I upgraded the RAM (the ram component can be found under a single screw that needs to be taken out and the lid just has to be forced off, basically) and downloaded the setting that allows me to change desktop. Solid changes that I do not regret. She's very fast and efficient, everything works as it should.
The only small downside is the shiny black surface which attracts greasy fingerprints very easily. It's impossible to touch the netbook without it looking messy - but that's a minor aesthetic thing to an otherwise perfect netbook that I'm very happy with. Fast, easy to use, ergonomic, beautiful piece of technology. 5 stars.
Good little machine November 29, 2009 WT (Spain) 44 out of 45 found this review helpful
I love the machine. I didn't upgrade to 2gigs Ram and haven't found the reason to. Windows 7 starter is just fine for someone like me and the computer runs like a champ. I travel the world with it and have had no problems. Good work to ASUS. I recommend this to anyone looking for a good travel computer.
A great netbook which does everything asked of it. January 27, 2010 Mr. J. P. Maunder (United Kingdom) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I bought the slightly older version of this netbook the only real difference being that it had XP pre-installed on it so I think this review is still relevant.
I bought this netbook to go travelling with and I want to start by saying it was brilliant. When I first got it I had problems with the wireless adaptor, from what I could work out the windows XP drivers couldn't handle the older encryption on my dad's router. So the first thing I did was install windows 7 ultimate and a 2GB RAM module and it was sweet after that. One thing Windows 7 does well is handle wireless connections.
I've been using the 1005HA for about 4 months with Windows 7 installed and it has been almost flawless. Initially, with the first release of 7, there were a few issues with driver compatibility as many of the proprietary Asus drivers were coded for xp and had to run in compatibility mode. However a few weeks in Windows had automatically updated most of the drivers and everything has been running smoothly since then. The newer model obviously won't have any of these problems as it's pre-installed with Windows 7 Starter which should also run a bit faster as it's optimised for netbooks.
I highly recommend this netbook as a travel companion whether you're commuting, travelling locally or travelling internationally. I was personally backpacking in Australia and it held up fine. I only had a neoprene case and have even dropped it a couple of times and is still running like new. An excellent piece of kit and it holds up to Asus' exacting standards. 10/10
A great little machine January 7, 2010 A. Thomson (Nottingham) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I bought this netbook for my wife for Christmas and she loves it. It's sleek, stylish and lightweight - just what my wife likes!
The initial setup / configuration that windows 7 goes through was a bit slow but it found our wireless network first time and was up and working without any fuss whatsoever. I was worried that applications would be slow to load but they load pretty fast and work well. I've installed OpenOffice and windows Live and they run fine.
The battery life is great and I'm sure we're getting the full 8.5 hours life out of the battery at the moment. All in all a very good little machine. Might buy one for myself!
