The scroll ball is the star here - all of you having problems, you just need to CLEAN THE BALL - turn the mouse upside down - i then roll mine on an optical cleaning cloth - do this regularly and you will have no problems. The ball is intuitive and once you get used to scrolling in every direction you will never go back to a normal mouse

I only operate 10.3.9 Panther and so the installation software which comes with this mouse is useless - full functionality is only to be had with 10.4.
The main problem issue is that the scroll ball is hyper sensitive and triggers the forward and back pages of my web browser at the slightest - and I mean slightest - sideways movement.
I only want to scroll up and down a web page, but unless you are extremely careful, you have suddenly gone back three webpages. It is totally frustrating and is Apple trying to be too clever.
A scroll wheel works fine. Who needs a miniscule ball?
I will be going beck to a Microsoft mouse, alas.

i got the mouse with my mac a couple of months ago. It feels really different and takes a while to get used to. Just as ive mastered how to use it the ball no longer scrolls up and down meaning the scroll ball is a effectively useless! disapointed!.

Someone mentioned that the scroll ball suddenly stopped scrolling up and down after three months. It happened to me, and I found the answer on the support pages on the apple website. Rotating the ball in all directions when holding the mouse upside down will clean the mechanism and restore the mouse's scrolling capabilities. Just general maintenence that you have to expect when you have mechanical parts moving. It works well for me and offers the solidity of apple drivers. The only reason why I give it 4 stars and not 5 is that right clicking involves lifting your left finger from the 'virtual' left button. Failure to do so seems to confuse the sensors...

I bought a mighty mouse as soon as they came out. It worked very well at first, and I very quickly got used to scrolling quickly and accurately using one finger in the scroll ball. But I've owned it less than three months and it will no longer scroll up and down, only side to side. I expect better of Apple than this.
