5 Reviews for Sony 1GB Memory Stick Pro

Not what it says on the tin... - 04 Jul 2007

BE WARNED it is not a Memory Stick Pro as the item description says above, it is a Memory Stick Pro Duo so before you buy it ensure that your camera will take it. It does come with an adaptor, but surely a company as big as Amazon should ensure that the item being sold is as per their description/indicated model number. However on the plus side it is a great bit of kit, and there will be no more need for me to take spare memory sticks around with me.

Does the job mostly - 01 May 2007

What I received was not in fact a Memory Stick as illustrated but a Memory Stick Duo (which is physically much smaller) with an adapter sleeve. This works fine in the camera (a Sony Cybershot), but not in my card reader (Viking), so files have to be transferred from the camera by USB cable with all the disadvantages mentioned by others. I'm prepared to believe this is a defect in the card reader rather than the stick itself but it's always been fine with the actual memory stick. There's a covering note from MoreFLash to say that Memory Stick format has now been discontinued.

This aside, it's great now having 45 mins of reasonable quality video on the camera - and much cheaper than buying a new camera!

Pretty awesome piece of kit really - does what it says it should do and in this instance has the quality brand name to go with it. Some advice for anyone who wants to copy a load of photos from the stick inside their camera onto their computer - don't.

As previously mentioned by another reviewer, if you try and copy a full card over from your camera to computer you're likely to use up a shedload of battery power. Now a pack of fairly decent batteries costs [...] at the moment - or you'll have to wait to recharge whatever ones you've got.

Instead, I'd 'invest' in a multicard reader. I have - spent [...] in a high-street electrical retailer on a 6-in-1 card reader - and as it's USB powered you don't have to have a spare mains socket or keep having to fork out for batteries.

But that's up to you anyway, I'm not here to tell you what to do :-)

It, erm, works! - 29 Jun 2006

There's not much to say about a memory stick, except that it does exactly what it's supposed to do perfectly well! The 1GB Memory Stick allows you not to worry about running out of memory or having a spare stick (e.g. it holds approximately 400 photos taken at 5 megapixel on my camera). The data transfer rate is speedy and I haven't encountered any problems with it.

It works - where can you go wrong? - 16 Jan 2006

There's little you can say about a memory stick. I've had mine a while and it's still working. Just note, if you fill up this card (1GB) and then upload them to a computer, the camera will use almost half of the battery power - so make sure you have a new set in before you start, as the camera will turn itself off half-way through and confuse the computer. If it does turn off, the computer might tell you the card is empty next time you plug it in - don't worry, it's lying, just restart your computer and put new batteries in your camera, and you'll get your photos back.
