Belkin 10/100 USB Ethernet Adapter - 22 Jan 2006

This item was delivered as expected. Unfortunately, the supplied driver software, on CD, was rejected by Windows XP SP2 and a download from the Internet was required to allow the adapter to be installed. Windows came up with a warning to the effect that to continue with the driver from the CD could cause the whole system to corrupt.
Reliable, but not as fast as a PCI adaptor - 04 Sep 2004

I found that with this card I had to install drivers even when I was using Windows XP, the manual says XP should have the drivers as standard. This is just a slight inconvenience as the drivers are contained on the included CD and are avaliable for download free from the Belkin web site.
Due to the USB connectivity, expect a ping 10ms higher than if you were using a PCI to Ethernet adaptor or onboard LAN.
Also the adaptor acts as a bottleneck to data transfer, and allows only 200KB/s (kilobytes not kilobits) transfer speed. (Around 4 times the speed of standard "512k" broadband.)
In conclusion, if you aren't prepared to open your PC up and install a card, this adaptor is for you (this or a FireWire network, or a USB to USB network), but if you can use a PCI adaptor they are cheaper and faster than this USB device. Also USB uses your processor time, unlike a PCI adaptor or onboard Ethernet.
Belkin USB 10/100 Ethernet Adapter - 16 Nov 2003

I needed a way of connecting my computer to another that already had an internal network card, I chose an external USB adapter because I wouldn't have to start fiddling around inside the case. Installation is easy, just plug it in the USB port, the network cable to the adapter, and it works.
I have had my adapter for some time now and it has never given me any problems. It has been powered directly by the USB port on the motherboard, and by a Belkin 4 port USB Hub and works fine with both. The only very small problem with it is the USB cable from the adapter to its power supply is quite small in length and on some motherboards means the adapter has to hang in the air though this doesn't cause any operating problems.

Cheap, and does what it's supposed to!
Mine connects my Netgem freeview receiver to my home network, thus enabling me to view broadband on my telly. Marvellous.

This Product is great news if you want broadband for your computer its quick and easy, this device allows you to plug it straight in a free USB port on your computer without needing any software or opening up your pc. This product is especially good for NTL: Home Broadband, it makes self-installation broadband easy, with no fuss!
